The Tia Maria story dates back to the 17th century, when a beautiful young Spanish aristocrat fled the turmoil colonial war brought to the island of Jamaica. Her maid brought one family treasure with her: a small jewelery box with black pearl earrings and an ancient manuscript with the recipe for a mysterious liqueur. The recipe was named after the courageous woman. Tia Maria was born. When Dr. Kenneth Leigh Evans rediscovered the recipe in the 1940s, he began to produce and market it.
La fable de Tia Maria remonte au 17e siècle. Une jeune fille d’une grande beauté, issue d’une famille aristocrate, a été contrainte de fuir la Guerre coloniale et a atterri à la Jamaïque, accompagnée par une servante qui a emporté le trésor familial, une petite boîte à bijoux avec des boucles d'oreilles en perles noires, et un vieux manuscrit contenant une recette d’une liqueur mystérieuse. En l'honneur de l'aide de sa courageuse servante, la jeune femme a nommé la liqueur Tia Maria. Quand le Dr Kenneth Leigh Evans a redécouvert la recette dans les années 40, il a aussitôt lancé sa fabrication et sa commercialisation.

Ihre Magd nahm den Familienschatz mit, eine kleine Schmuckschatulle mit schwarzen Perlenohrringen und einem alten Manuskript mit dem Rezept für einen mysteriösen Likör. Das Rezept wurde nach der mutigen Frau benannt: Tia Maria. Als Dr. Kenneth Leigh Evans in den 1940er Jahren das Rezept wiederent-deckt, startete die Produktion und Vertaktung.
